Earth Day with United Way

On Wednesday, EmPower Solar honored to attend the groundbreaking of United Way of Long Island’s “First in the Country” DOE Zero Energy Ready Home. The group home will be built by veterans, for veterans, using energy efficiency technologies. The house is designed to have virtually no electricity bills, thanks to intelligent insulation, appliances, lighting, and solar panels. The home will be built through the United Way of Long Island’s VetsBuild program in Huntington Station, Long Island.

At the VetsBuild graduation ceremony held earlier that morning, Town of Huntington Supervisor Frank Petrone commented on the importance of programs like VetsBuild and the work of United Way Long Island. “We look to our soldiers to protect us, and when they come home, it’s their turn.”

The ceremony celebrated recent graduates of the VetsBuild program, and included remarks by Jets Cornerback Antonio Cromartie.

United Way of Long Island (UWLI) advances the common good, creating opportunities for a better life for all by focusing on the three key building blocks of education, financial stability and health. UWLI recruits people and organizations that bring the passion, expertise and resources needed to get things done. Please visit their website for more information.

EmPower Solar has partnered with United Way of Long Island to install fifteen solar electric systems on homes across Nassau & Suffolk County, saving approximately $66,360 to date. EmPower Solar also installed an educational solar system at UWLI’s E3 SmartBuild Center. This facility is used for training in the VetsBuild and YouthBuild programs. EmPower looks forward to partnering with United Way on continued projects as well!
