About HERJC

HERJC turned to solar power years ago as a way of embracing tikkun olam, the Jewish principle of repairing the world. Since 2008, the Centre’s solar array has worked to offset its carbon footprint, reduced overhead costs, and encourage neighbors across Long Island to embrace renewable energy. HERJC is outfitted with 120 8.36 kWh solar panels that over the course of the system’s lifetime, will help eliminate 1,086,610 lbs. of carbon dioxide from our atmosphere.

Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Centre/Congregation Etz Chaim (HERJC) is a warm, vibrant, traditional-egalitarian Conservative congregation. Our diverse, forward-thinking community is one in which learning, prayer and social action flourish.

Since its founding in 1949, HERJC has been recognized for creating a welcoming environment in which each member—regardless of age, stage of life or background—feels a connection to one another, to the Jewish people, to the United States, to the land and state of Israel, to Judaism and to God.
